The inaugural BCI European Awards ceremony took place on the evening of 12th June 2013 at a dinner in Brussels.

The winners were:

Industry Personality of the Year: Iain Taylor (Hon) FBCI
Iain’s nominator felt he deserved recognition for his diligent promotion of the business continuity discipline. Iain currently stands as chair of the BCI’s Global Membership Council, mentors industry newcomers and has served as chair of the IBM UK Client Community where his style, influence and personality have made it the engaging forum it is today.

BCM Newcomer of the Year: Andrew MacLeod AMBCI
Since becoming involved in business continuity in July 2011, Andrew has brought originality and ingenuity to the industry. He designed and developed the first BCMS to be certified to ISO 22301 in the UK.

Business Continuity Team of the Year: SWIFT
This cross-divisional BCM team is tasked with implementing and maintaining SWIFT’s business continuity programme and culture.

Business Continuity Provider of the Year (Product): eBRP Solutions Network, Inc
eBRP has been a premier provider of business continuity software since 2002. The judges determined that what sets this product apart are its capabilities as an incident management toolset.

Business Continuity Provider of the Year (Service): Continuity Shop
Continuity Shop was awarded Business Continuity Provider of the Year (Service) having developed around 30 business continuity training courses in the last nine years which have been delivered more than 700 times on four different continents.

Business Continuity Innovation of the Year: Easy Continuity Ltd
The Business Continuity Innovation of the Year award went to Easy Continuity Ltd which launched in September 2012 to provide a new business continuity service for the SME market. The service comprises of 'pre-incident' checklists, tools, continuity plans and software so that clients can prepare themselves, combined with 'post incident' facilitation to their extensive UK network of over 75 continuity facilities along with IT and telephony recovery and fire, flood and restoration assistance. The service is a low, monthly based subscription, with most recovery costs being met by business interruption insurance.

Most Effective Recovery of the Year: NHS Blood and Transplant
NHS Blood and Transplant operates one of the largest blood manufacturing centres in the world at Filton near Bristol, UK. In Sept 2012 the centre was flooded and closed, but a remarkable recovery operation involving staff at all levels saw it back in business within a week, with virtually no disruption to patients. The recovery involved implementation of the business continuity plans, along with a well-rehearsed command structure and a detailed logistics plan to maintain distribution to customers, so avoiding the potential for massive life threatening impacts on patients across the whole of the NHS.

Public Sector BC Manager of the Year: Mary-Ellen Lang MBCI
Mary-Ellen Lang was awarded Public Sector BC Manager of the Year for achieving corporate certification to BS25999 in 2011, being responsible for the Edinburgh Resilience Forum which promotes business continuity and improves community resilience and preparedness, and contributing nationally to business continuity through key committees and groups.

David Clarke, Telefónica UK Limited, manages the business continuity programme for the whole of O2 in the UK. This last year has presented unique challenges for Dave with the Olympics and the Diamond Jubilee to plan for whilst, in parallel, delivering the re-certification to BS25999 and ensuring O2 UK became the only UK communications company to secure ISO 22301 certification across all of its operations.

Good Things Come in Threes: eBRP Garners 3rd 2013 BCI Award

eBRP Solutions Network, Inc. (eBRP) completed the Business Continuity Management version of a cricket or hockey “hat trick” after being named winner of the inaugural BCI European Business Continuity Product Provider of the Year award. This is the 3rd BCI Regional Award garnered by eBRP in 2013.

In March, eBRP was named winner of the Product Provider award in North America, presented in Orlando, FL. On May 29th eBRP picked up the same for the Middle East at a ceremony in Dubai, UAE.
The award presentation cited eBRP for “what sets this product (eBRP Suite) apart is its capabilities as an Incident Management toolset. While other BCM software stops at plans, this extends its full capabilities to managing response.”

The BCI European Awards were presented at a ceremony in Brussels, held in conjunction with the BCI Executive Forum.

“We are exceptionally gratified to have eBRP Suite recognized in this manner by professionals in the European Business Continuity industry.” said Sibel Misirlisoy, eBRP Sr. Mgr., Global Operations. “Winning a single award this year would have been satisfying; winning three validates all of the hard work the eBRP Team has devoted to maintaining eBRP Suite’s leading-edge capabilities.”

All of this year’s Regional Award winners are finalists for the BCI Global Awards 2013 which take place on November 6th in London as part of the BCM World Conference and Exhibition 2013.
