Philippines survey shows the importance of considering business continuity in BPO decisions Business process outsourcing (BPO) decisions should not be made solely on the basis of operational costs; business continuity must also be factored into the decision. The importance of this is highlighted by recent research published by the Institute of Development and Econometric Analysis in the Philippines. The research found that eight out of 18 Philippine cities providing business process outsourcing services are situated in disaster-prone areas. Metro Manila, Dagupan, Naga, Angeles, Cavite, Sta. Rosa, Lipa, and Legazpi are all ranked as at ‘high to very high risk’ of climate-related disasters. With climate change expected to increase the number and severity of environment-related disasters in the region, organizations using these areas for BPO are advised to carefully consider how climate related risks are likely to develop in future; and what the implications are for the business continuity challenges that local BPO firms are likely to face. •Date: 26th Oct 2012 •Asia Pacific •Type: Article • Topic: BC general
