NEDRIX closes its doors

NEDRIX (The NorthEast Disaster Recovery Information Exchange) has announced that it is closing down, 'passing the torch' to other business continuity organizations, after 30 years service to the profession.
In a letter Tim Patterson, President of the NEDRIX Board of Directors, said:
“Over the past 30 years, the Business Continuity community has evolved into a diverse and ever expanding group of professionals. The NorthEast Disaster Recovery Information Exchange (NEDRIX) has been there with you to help facilitate the sharing of information, best practices, and provide an outlet to connect with other professionals in the NorthEast region. Over these decades, many dedicated volunteers have led NEDRIX activities to meet the needs of the Business Continuity Industry and membership to make their jobs easier and part of an interconnected community. This involved multi and single day conferences, social events, lunches, web-based briefings, real-world event notifications, and representing the private sector at State Emergency Operations Center activations. We hope these activities have provided value to you and your company as you grew in your professional life.
“Over the past few years, the business world has continued to change how we interact, learn, share information and maintain relationships. NEDRIX, as a volunteer-led non-profit, has attempted to provide and foster activities that align with this new model. But, we recognize that it is harder today for each of us to participate in activities that were once a standard practice, and that other professional organizations are providing similar activities that may align better to your needs. At the beginning of the year, before the COVID-19 events, we made the difficult decision to not continue providing the services and activities we have for almost 30 years, after our April conference. It is upsetting to us to make this decision, but knowing that other Business Continuity professional organizations, and sector specific groups are continuing to foster information exchange, we feel it is time to let them carry the torch.
“With the COVID-19 pandemic underway, this decision and news doesn’t seem aligned at all. I do agree, but one thing that we have witnessed over the past year, is that our members have numerous outlets for information, reporting, conferences and coordination that did not exist in the past few years. And that has been reinforced during the past 8 weeks as these groups continue to facilitate information and support to us all.
“NEDRIX’s keymark logo is a lighthouse with the light burning through the fog. Every board member, committee member, and volunteer, over the years, put so much of their time, effort and dedication into this organization to make that light shine and bring the community and our members enlightenment and comradery. It has been our pleasure to work with and for you, and we wish you all the best in your personal and professional life.”
