Akamai Technologies has announced the availability of the Prolexic Q2 2014 Global DDoS Attack Report. The report, which provides analysis and insight into the global DDoS threat landscape, can be downloaded at www.prolexic.com/attackreports. Highlights include:
Compared to the second quarter of 2013
- 22 percent increase in total DDoS attacks
- 72 percent increase in average attack bandwidth
- 46 percent increase in infrastructure (Layer 3 and 4) attacks
- 54 percent decrease in average attack duration: 38 vs. 17 hours
- 241 percent increase in average peak bandwidth.

The Council of Governors met recently during the National Governors Association (NGA) 2014 Summer Meeting in Nashville, Tennessee. During the meeting, the Council, the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) approved a joint action plan for cybersecurity.
The Joint Action Plan for State-Federal Unity of Effort on Cybersecurity (Action Plan) is a commitment by states, DHS and DoD to work together to improve the nation’s cybersecurity posture. It establishes a framework to guide state-federal discussions in areas such as information sharing, operational coordination and incident response.
