Fourth National Disaster Risk Reduction Roundtable takes place in Canada
Yesterday (5th November) Roxanne James, Parliamentary Secretary to the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, opened the Fourth Annual National Roundtable on Disaster Risk Reduction in Regina, Saskatchewan.

“Our government is determined to find solutions to reduce risks and that's why we will continue to stand with Canadians in their time of need. Building a safe and resilient Canada is a responsibility shared by all levels of government, as well as the private sector, NGOs and individual Canadians,” said Ms. James. “The members of Canada's Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction are contributing to building community resilience by advancing discussions about innovative ways government, organizations, the private sector and individuals can reduce the risks and impacts of disasters.”

“We must go beyond disaster response and recovery and focus on mitigation measures that will result in proactive, cost-effective solutions to protect our communities,” she added.

The National Roundtable of Canada's Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction began in 2010.

Cristie Software unveils CloneManager: a new offering in the server migration space
Cristie Software has released CloneManager, a software product that migrates running Windows and Linux servers to and from physical, virtual and cloud environments.

CloneManager provides a console with an intuitive drag and drop user interface. The console is a light weight Java application that is installed in-house and there are plans to offer self-service migrations through an on-line portal early next year. CloneManager currently provides full integration with vSphere, vCloud Director and Microsoft Hyper V. Support for Open Stack and AWS is scheduled for Q1 2014.

Cristie is aware that it is entering an already crowded market with competitors including Racemi, Platespin, Zerto, Rivermeadow, AppAssure and Pureflex. It believes however that it has some key advantages. Its replication is file based rather than image based which allows it to rapidly synchronize a previously cloned machine with its source machine - particularly useful for machines with large amounts of data or restricted bandwidth which can be cloned over an extended period and then brought back up to date. CloneManager also allows for some sophisticated customisation of machines during the live migration process so that they are optimized for the cloud environment. www.cristie.com
