‘Corporate Governance and Business Preparedness’
A survey of The Conference Board paints a detailed picture of how businesses are balancing security, business continuity, and operational risk management as part of governance. While the survey confirms previous findings that board members are not deeply involved in routine issues of preparedness, there is persuasive evidence that board involvement is increasing and growing more nuanced over time. FEMA Region 6 and arkansas to participate in national level catastrophic exercise in May
FEMA Region 6 will partner with the state of Arkansas in a catastrophic earthquake exercise in May that will directly involve at least three other FEMA regions, several states and federal partners throughout the US. Scheduled for May 16-19, National Level Exercise 2011 (NLE 2011) is designed to replicate a disastrous New Madrid Seismic event in Northeast Arkansas. The purpose of the exercise is to prepare and coordinate a multiple-jurisdictional integrated response to a national catastrophic event. www.ready.gov/nle2011

President declares major disaster for Illinois
FEMA has announced that federal disaster aid has been made available to the state of Illinois to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area struck by a severe winter storm and snowstorm during the period of January 31 to February 3, 2011. Gregory W. Eaton has been named as the Federal Coordinating Officer for Federal recovery operations in the affected area. http://www.fema.gov/news/newsrelease.fema?id=53946

City of London's Business Continuity Awareness Week initiatives
The City of London’s Contingency Planning Team in conjunction with the City Business Library, Leadenhall Market and the British Standards Institution (BSI) have organised a series of activities in order to promote organizational resilience as part of the International Business Continuity Awareness Week (21-25 March 2011).

For the whole week, the BSI will be having a literature display at the City Business Library with information on the British Standard for Business Continuity (BS 25999), the Published Documents on Human Aspects of Business Continuity and on Testing and Exercising (PD 25111 and PD 25666), and the British Standard for Risk Management (BS 31100).

On Tuesday 22 March, between 10:00am and 1:00pm, the City of London’s Contingency Planning Team will be at Leadenhall Market offering free, personalised business continuity and emergency planning advice and guidance.
