UK gets new crisis communications solution
ContinuumPlus, a new instant notification tool allowing organisations to contact key personnel with a single activation, delivering information simultaneously via mobile phone, PDA, landline, blackberry, pager, e-mail and fax has been launched by Continuum Consultancy. The system can send and receive up to 650,000 SMS responses per hour and up to 1,740 voice calls simultaneously through a network of multi-location resilient servers. Met Office warns of more severe weather for England and Wales
Met Office forecasters have issued an early warning of severe weather, with further rain and showers forecast to sweep across parts of the UK later this week and through the weekend. TelecityRedbus to invest £50m in new London data centre
TelecityRedbus has announced it has begun construction on a new £50m data centre in Central London. The Powergate facility will be one of the highest specification data centres in Europe, with a planned 25 megawatts of resilient power and approximately 50,000sq feet of capacity. UK REACH chemical risk management regulations come into effect
The REACH Regulation on the management and control of chemicals came into force on 1 June. REACH, which stands for Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals, sets in place measures for industry to provide evidence of any chemical risks and will make sure everyone in the supply chain knows how to handle the chemicals in question safely. A helpline has been set up by the UK Competent Authority for REACH. Businesses can obtain advice on how it will affect them and what they need to do to comply. The helpdesk can be contacted on 0845 4089575 or UKREACHCA@hse.gsi.gov.uk. The UK Government REACH website is at http://www.hse.gov.uk/reach
