The UK Environment Agency's has published its full report into Exercise Triton, commissioned by Defra and carried out last summer. Triton, the largest emergency planning exercise carried out in the UK, involved some 1,000 people and simulated a large sea flooding event in several regions of England and Wales. The Environment Agency report contains a number of recommendations which Defra and its partners at central, regional and local government levels will take forward in a new Flood Emergencies Capabilities Programme. http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/?lang=_e

The government has published details of emergency planning guidance within the National Health Service and has invited public comments. The purpose of the guidance is to describe a set of general principles to guide all NHS organisations in developing their ability to respond to a major incident or incidents and to manage recovery whether the incident or incidents has effects locally, regionally, or nationally, within the context of the requirements of the Civil Contingencies Act 2004.The consultation closes on 8 September, 2005.
