ICM Computer Group has published a trading update covering the year to 30 June 2005. The statement says that ICM's overall trading performance during the second half of the year has continued to be satisfactory, with turnover in the business continuity division growing strongly. However, revenues in the company’s IT Solutions division are reducing.

Defra's new Exotic Animal Disease Generic Contingency Plan has been laid before Parliament. The plan has a core generic section with specific annexes relating Foot and Mouth Disease, Avian Influenza, Newcastle Disease, and Classical Swine Fever. The UK Health and Safety Executive has launched its Corporate Health and Safety Performance Indicator (CHaSPI). This is a web-based tool to assist larger organisations (250 employees+) to: get a measure of the effectiveness of their internal controls over health and safety; and to benchmark their performance against their own targets and the performance of their peers. Tough new powers to tackle animal rights extremist campaigns of violence and intimidation aimed at companies and individuals involved in research with animals have been implemented by the UK government. It is now a criminal offence to target any scientist, research facility or company in the supply chain with a campaign of unlawful acts including criminal damage, trespass, blackmail and libel. A UK Health and Safety Executive report has confirmed evidence of a positive link between the appointment of safety representatives and levels of health and safety awareness and performance. The findings of the report, ‘The role and effectiveness of safety representatives in influencing workplace health and safety’, show how safety representatives encourage worker participation in risk management and how consultation on health and safety helps to improve the working environment.
