Defra publishes contingency plan for exotic animal diseases The UK Government's updated Exotic Animal Disease Contingency Plan was laid in Parliament recently. The revised plan is produced by Animal Health for Defra, and includes changes which have been subject to formal public consultation. A business continuity first for Scottish Borders Council Scottish Borders Council has become the first local authority in the the UK to achieve certification to BS 25999. Alan Bowman, head of financial administration at SBC, and his team were presented with the certificate at a recent full Council meeting. Convener Alasdair Hutton, who chairs the Audit Committee responsible for risk management said: “It is a shining testament to the hard work of the team, and in particular that of senior risk management adviser Hugh Kinsella and his assistant Sue Redfearn, that Scottish Borders Council is the first council in the UK to gain this standard. The cost of crime against UK small businesses soars to £13,500 for each company UK small businesses lose an average of £13,500 each because of crime every year, while more than two thirds of businesses are victims of crime, according to a survey by the Federation of Small Businesses, a figure that has risen by seven percent over the past two years.
