The deadline has now passed for taking part in the consultation process for Part One of BS 25999, the British Standard for Business Continuity Management. This is now due for publication in October or November 2006 and will, according to the British Standards Institution, ‘establish the process, principles and terminology of business continuity management, providing a basis for understanding, developing implementing and maintaining business continuity within an organization and to provide confidence in the business, as well as business-to-business and business-to-customer dealings.’
Work on Part Two of the standard is underway. Part Two will be the control framework, enabling companies who wish to comply with BS 25999 to either ‘self-declare’ or, once assessors are trained, to be audited on their compliance to the standard. A certification scheme will need to be developed to enable organisations to be independently audited and certified against the requirements of the standard. Part Two is scheduled for publication early in 2007.
You can help influence the development of the certification scheme by taking part in the following survey, which is being handled by Continuity Central on behalf of BSI and with the support of the Business Continuity Institute. The results will be collated by Continuity Central and used by BSI and the Business Continuity Institute.
