Kalmis has committed to expanding communications with the BCI membership
and providing BCI members with the opportunity to more fully participate
in BCI affairs. In an e-mail letter sent yesterday, Mr Kalmis said:
“I want you to know that this Board is committed to expanding
communications with the BCI membership and providing BCI members
with the opportunity to more fully participate in BCI affairs.
“As a first step, beginning with the
February Board meeting, we will publish on the BCI web site the
key actions taken by the Board at each of its regular or special
meetings.
“In addition, each Committee Chairperson
will be looking for members
interested in serving on their committee. Our goal is to have at
least three non-Board members on each committee. Please let us know
if you are interested. We may also be creating some new committees
to enhance our ability to respond to professional and Institute
issues
“During the year, we will be asking all
members to participate in a
comprehensive survey to identify opportunities for improvement both
general and specific and to get member thoughts on how we can enhance
the current services and activities offered by the Institute. The
survey is on the Membership Committee agenda.
“We are going to explore ways and means
of providing remote access to the
Annual General Meeting for those members who are unable to attend
in person. There are obviously security, vote tabulation, and privacy
concerns here and I am not sure we will be successful in implementing
this year but we will try.
“As part of our internal quality processes
we are implementing a formal
complaint procedure, currently under development, that will provide
the Board with the appropriate metrics to fully analyze causal factors.
“We will seek a multitude of varied outside
perspectives on important
business continuity issues. To this end I have formed a Chair’s
Forum which will serve as an informal advisory body to the chair.
It will be composed of subject matter experts at all levels of the
professional and business scale. The first two members are James
Lee Witt, former director of the United States Federal Emergency
Management Agency and Chris Rigby-Smith, service leader, Business
Continuity for Marsh, Inc. (UK)”
