A survey by TheInfoPro has
found that out of 39 different security technologies, wireless security
has gained the most traction with security professionals during
2003, and intrusion prevention projects are the most widely planned
for 2004. The study was based on 175 in-depth interviews with decision
makers from major corporations.
Highlights
include:
* 51 percent of the users interviewed have an intrusion
prevention project planned for implementation before 2005. Intrusion
prevention project plans were measured separately from intrusion
detection projects, which only 18 percent of interviewees are planning.
* 39 percent of interviewees are planning new
wireless security projects for 2004.
* Anti-spam projects are a top short-term priority,
with 19 percent of interviewees saying they have projects scheduled
within the next six months.
* Application firewalls are another hot project.
Not only did the number of planned application firewall projects
increase substantially during 2003, but also nearly 1/3 (32 percent)
of interviewees have application firewall projects planned for next
year.
