CNT has launched a new suite
of services designed to help enterprise customers accelerate the
move from ESCON mainframe environments to FICON.
Today,
large mainframe environments are encountering new growth, scalability,
and recovery requirements driven by ever-larger volumes of data
and an increased sensitivity to the need for effective business
continuity infrastructures. Because of these new requirements, some
businesses are reevaluating their current ESCON architectures and
migrating to FICON.
"A move to FICON offers clients enhanced
performance, functionality, and increased distance capabilities.
Also, clients can realise cost savings from moving to a FICON environment,"
said David Barton, vice president of professional services at CNT.
"By migrating to FICON, clients can consolidate their storage,
needing fewer tape drives, storage arrays, controllers, or directors.
This cost benefit alone can save a company hundreds of thousands
of dollars per year."
CNT’s new service aims to make the move
to FICON as quick and painless as possible.
CNT has also announcing that it is to run FICON
workshops. These one-day events are geared toward helping people
determining whether their business would benefit from a move to
FICON. CNT consultants work collaboratively with the storage management
team to identify the unique issues within the environment that might
benefit from FICON, and educate the customer as to the key things
to consider in the migration.
