ITWeb (Johannesburg) has reported that KPMG
has recently conducted the first comprehensive survey of South African
business continuity management activity.
Highlights of the survey included:
* 76 percent of the companies surveyed had business continuity plans
in place.
* Only 45 percent of respondents were satisfied with the level of
training given to staff on business continuity.
* More than half the companies (57 percent) spend R1 million or
less on business continuity, and 9 percent have no budget for BC
at all.
* Just under half of the companies surveyed (49 percent) have significant
highly complex systems with no manual alternatives, while 71 percent
make moderate to significant use of third-parties and service providers,
and are heavily dependent on these external processes.
