VERITAS providing backup using utility computing model

Get free weekly news by e-mailVERITAS has announced the availability of its new ‘CommandCentral Service 3.5’ software, which delivers backup, recovery and storage as a service. CommandCentral Service 3.5 measures and reports on IT resource consumption, service levels and costs and is integrated with VERITAS' backup and recovery products, NetBackup and Backup Exec software. This allows administrators to create logical resource groupings, define services, measure service levels and usage and allocate costs based upon usage. The software also allows administrators to manage storage to agreed-upon service levels, customisable by departmental needs and adaptable to the needs of the business. This capability helps IT organisations to deliver pre-defined service levels at the lowest costs and improve efficiency through automation of standard processes.

"In testing CommandCentral Service, we have found that it is truly the first solution for delivering storage and backup and recovery as a service to internal and external customers," said Norm Fjeldheim, senior vice president and chief information officer for QUALCOMM. "CommandCentral Service further reinforces VERITAS' commitment to enabling utility computing by empowering QUALCOMM to take the initial steps toward full automation. We're already experiencing a taste of the economic and time-saving benefits of utility computing."

VERITAS CommandCentral Service 3.5 software is available immediately. Pricing starts at $22,000.
