Schlumberger expands its London recovery facility

Get free weekly news by e-mailSchlumberger Business Continuity Services has announced that it has expanded its state-of-the-art, flagship recovery centre in London by 15 percent. The expansion comes as the company takes ownership of another floor in the London site, which now has 368,000 square feet available for business continuity. Schlumberger says that this makes it the largest recovery facility in Europe.

The recovery facility, based in central London, will now support more than 2,000 end-user recovery positions and data centre space. In addition, the facilities will house secure infrastructure including fully furnished offices, pre-wired redundant telecommunications, uninterruptible power supply units, 24-hour security monitoring and 6 x2.5mVA generators with a fuel capacity to sustain a raw mains outage for 36 days.

The recovery positions are a combination of shared and dedicated positions. Schlumberger Business Continuity Services prides itself on its exclusion zones methodology. To ensure that recovery positions are not oversubscribed, Schlumberger Business Continuity Services audits the number of companies and the distances from each of the recovery sites and limits the number of subscribers to each service. This number varies according to the market need, the lowest being 6:1.

“We are firmly committed to meeting the needs of our customers in the London metropolitan area,” said John Kersley, vice president, Business Continuity Services, Schlumberger. “This facility gives our customers more options for work group recovery and data centre space that will enable them to attain a higher level of information availability.”
