"Security ultimately depends on each individual asking the right questions at the right time - like 'Why is that door open?' or 'Does that cell phone have a built-in camera?'," Moritz said during a panel discussion on the intersection of physical and cyber security, corporate risk, and privacy at the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY. "Companies must engage the eyes and ears of their employees to protect their company and their country. In other words, security is everyone's business."

In addition to ramping up employee awareness, Moritz expressed the importance of educating and involving other constituencies in security activities, including customers, partners and contractors.

Moritz discussed the proven vulnerability reductions that are achieved when physical and cyber security events are effectively correlated. He encouraged security managers to embrace enterprise-wide, function-agnostic risk management strategies, and emphasised the role such strategies can play in enhancing business performance and profitability. He also called for chief executive officers to empower chief security officers to lead the convergence of business continuity planning, cyber and physical security functions.

The Forbes Forum at West Point brought together senior executives to discuss and debate security challenges, opportunities and strategies for the future, including how individual citizens, the private sector, the Department of Homeland Security and other government agencies can work together to combat terrorism.
