The New Zealand Shake Out

At 9.26am on Wednesday 26th September New Zealand’s biggest ever earthquake preparedness exercise will take place. Organizers are looking for over 1 million participants from all areas of the country’s communities. To date over 610,000 people are listed as taking part. 348 businesses have signed up, providing around 75,000 participants.

New Zealand ShakeOut is a partnership between central and local government, with local government agencies being key players in encouraging public and corporate participation.

The New Zealand Shake Out national planning team includes members from:

  • Ministry of Civil Defence & Emergency Management
  • Department of Internal Affairs
  • Auckland Council
  • Hamilton City Council
  • Tauranga City Council
  • Greater Wellington Regional Council
  • Ministry of Health
  • Ministry of Education
  • Ministry of Social Development
  • Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet
  • New Zealand Police
  • New Zealand Defence Force
  • New Zealand Fire Service
  • GNS Science.
