Slow progress in restoring power to June 29th US storm-damaged areas Many US businesses will have welcomed the chance to take a break on the Fourth of July from current power supply difficulties. Problems started on June 29 when severe summer storms tore through eleven eastern states, causing widespread damage to the electricity supply network. Millions of residents and thousands of businesses have been without power since then and the outages look likely to continue until the end of this week. The power outages have been exacerbated by extremely high temperatures which have made working conditions very difficult for businesses lacking their usual air conditioning. The worst affected areas are currently West Virginia, Ohio and Virginia. The latest sitreps from the main power suppliers to these areas can be read at the links below: •Date: 4th July 2012 • US •Type: Article • Topic: DR general
