NCR launches Teradata Warehouse 7.1

Teradata, a division of NCR Corporation, has announced the release of Teradata Warehouse 7.1, a suite of enhanced data warehousing hardware and software that maximises data warehouse availability, reliability and flexibility. Engineered for businesses that depend on their data warehouse for mission critical applications, the Teradata Warehouse 7.1 suite includes Teradata Dual Systems, NCR Backup, Archive and Restore (BAR) solutions, the flagship Teradata Database V2R5.1, Teradata Tools and Utilities 7.1 and two new powerful servers, the NCR 4980 Server and the NCR 5380 Server.

"Our customers need greater performance levels than ever before and have higher availability requirements to ensure the continuity of their business," said Vickie Farrell, vice president of Teradata warehouse marketing. "As the use of active data warehousing continues to grow, Teradata Warehouse 7.1 provides customers extreme availability and performance."

With traditional data warehouses, the backup or redundant system sits idle until needed, which is expensive and an inefficient use of resources. The Dual Systems aspect of Teradata Warehouse 7.1 provides the ability to deploy the redundant system as a part of the production environment, allowing users and applications access to both systems simultaneously. By remotely locating the redundant system, a faster disaster recovery is achieved should an entire system be lost. This approach protects customers' data and enables a timely recovery, which, depending on the business needs, can be completed within seconds. Teradata Dual Systems protects data availability from planned and unplanned downtime. During a scheduled maintenance window or outage, users and applications can be temporarily redirected to the redundant system.

The Teradata Warehouse 7.1 suite will be generally available for shipment at the end of the fourth quarter 2003.
