SunGard and Dell agree US disaster recovery alliance

Dell and SunGard Availability Services have announced that they have agreed to offer a combined disaster recovery service to Dell’s US customers. Under the alliance, customers will have quick-ship access to a temporary Dell PowerEdge server, a critical situation support team and processes to keep operations running while a replacement server is deployed. The temporary server will be available at a SunGard recovery centre or at the customer's own location within 48 hours. Work-area and other business recovery facilities will also be available at SunGard recovery centres.

"As companies of all sizes realise the vulnerability of mission-critical data to natural disasters and other unforeseen incidents, our customers need an easy, affordable and high quality way to get systems back up and running as quickly and seamlessly as possible," said Gary Cotshott, vice president and general manager, Dell Services. "This relationship between two industry leaders will provide Dell customers with a convenient, cost-effective means to minimise downtime when crises occur."

Dell/SunGard Disaster Recovery Services can be purchased for one to five-year terms. Annual pricing for the service (subject to terms and conditions) is $349 for PowerEdge SC and 1000 series servers; $499 for PowerEdge 2000 and 4000 series servers; and $1,939 for PowerEdge 6000 series servers.
