Typhoon Maemi struck South Korea over the weekend
causing at least 84 deaths. High winds and flash floods resulted
in major continuity problems for businesses due to structural damage,
wide-spread power outages and transport and logistics difficulties.
With winds up to 216 km/h, Maemi was the strongest storm to hit
South Korea since records began.
Local officials estimated that up to $12.9
billion of damage has been caused to power facilities and that restoration
will take several days in many areas of South Korea.
The country’s export industry could be
affected for many months due to damage at the important freight
port of Busan.
