The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
has announced that President Bush has declared a major disaster
for Indiana, allowing the use of federal disaster funds to help
meet the disaster recovery needs of businesses affected by floods
and other extreme weather that started on August 26th.
FEMA designated the following 21 counties eligible
for aid to flood-stricken business owners: Blackford, Boone, Clay,
Delaware, Grant, Greene, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Henry, Jay,
Johnson, Madison, Marion, Monroe, Montgomery, Morgan, Owen, Putnam,
Randolph and Shelby.
Damage surveys are continuing and additional
counties and assistance for state and local government agencies
may be designated later based on the results of the assessments.
FEMA’s Thomas J. Costello will coordinate
the federal relief effort.
Affected business owners in the designated
counties can begin the disaster application process by calling 1-800-621-FEMA
(3362), or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired.
