Despite the UK’s new coalition government commitment to decentralisation and the transfer of power from central government down to local councils and communities, it has confirmed that some areas, including arrangements for resilience and civil contingencies, will remain under the remit and management of central government.
The announcement was made in a written ministerial statement by Eric Pickles, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government.
