New security and availability certification scheme for UK telecoms companies

Get free weekly news by e-mailUKAS has announced that the UK National Technical Authority for Information Assurance (CESG) is developing a certification scheme for telecommunication service providers, the ‘Standard Security Level Certification Scheme’.

This is intended to provide assurance of security to meet the UK government’s defined business impact level 224 (level 2 for integrity, 2 for confidentiality and level 4 for availability).

The scheme will be based on information security management system certification to ISO 27001, and will add requirements specific to the telecommunications sector.

UKAS will be running a pilot assessment programme for this scheme from mid-March 2010.
