The fourth serious bomb attack this year killed
at least 50 people in India’s ‘commercial capital’
Mumbai yesterday. The Indian government has responded to the latest
incident by implementing stricter security measures at airports,
railway stations and religious building. Extra troops are being
deployed in major cities.
Yesterday’s incident consisted of two
separate explosions, one at the city's Gateway of India monument,
the other adjacent to a temple.
Businesses in Mumbai experienced disruption
due to imposition of exclusion zones around the blast areas and
the failure of the local mobile phone network due to overloading.
