Business continuity management in the Middle East

Get free weekly news by e-mailAn industry survey conducted by eHosting DataFort and the BCM (Business Continuity Management) Institute has looked into business continuity management practices in the Middle East.

The survey found that while almost 60 percent of participants claimed they had documented a business continuity plan for their organizations, further questioning discovered that the majority of respondents (70 percent) did not have a fully fledged business continuity management system in place.

Nearly 38 percent of the respondents revealed having more than 20 years of experience in dealing with business continuity planning one way or the other, although 40 percent stated they did not have a specific individual to head or coordinate business continuity management in the organization.

Detailed results of the survey indicated that a number of significant business disruptions in the past year were caused by network failures (45 percent), followed by power failures (20 percent), manmade disruptions including theft, hacking attempts, sabotage, poor judgment (11 percent), and natural disasters such as sandstorms, floods and earthquakes (8 percent).
