Small and medium sized UK enterprises are putting data at risk according to new research published by Buffalo Technology. The research also indicates that data backup is being ignored and, as a result, sensitive business and customer information is being lost.
The survey indicated that 28 percent of SMEs do not backup company data. When these businesses were asked why this was the case, time (34 percent), security worries (16 percent) and not being concerned (14 percent) were listed as the main reasons. Other small businesses (13 percent) found complexity a barrier.
However, 46 percent said that they would backup all their data if the process was automated and 23 percent said they would if it was quicker and easier. Security and reliability also featured as influential reasons.
Buffalo Technology commissioned Insight UK to carry out the research.
351 businesses were interviewed for the survey.
