Business continuity in India

Get free weekly news by e-mailA joint Deloitte and Business Continuity Institute report provides a snapshot of business continuity management within Indian organizations. Entitled, ‘India BCM survey report 2009: Are we really resilient?’ the report underlines the fact that business continuity management is increasingly becoming part of corporate governance or business strategy.

The report highlights the following:

- While many organizations surveyed claimed to have a business continuity programme, many of these were of questionable quality.

- In many organizations business continuity management was hindered by inadequate allocation of resources in terms of both budget and personnel.

- While a comprehensive business continuity programme must encompass third party/vendor assessment, a majority of respondents indicated that these key constituents were not included in their business continuity programme.

- Many business continuity programmes were IT centric

- While a majority of respondents indicated that there was senior management involvement in business continuity management, Indian BC programmes are largely owned by IT, administration and other departments rather than senior management.
