The UK Department for Communities and Local Government has published a new guide which aims to support the conduct of risk assessments by Local Resilience Forums in the context of civil contingency planning. It also provides a useful guide for business continuity managers when considering major external risks.
Published as Fire Research Series 5/2009, ‘Guide to risk assessment tools, techniques and data’ provides:
* An overview of risk categories and the form of risk assessment that is possible for each;
* Identifies specific risk assessment tools, techniques and data where they exist and summarises these;
* Notes the limitations of current tools, techniques and data;
* Provides references and sources.
This guide focuses on strategic risk assessment, particularly the frequency of major events and their severity, rather than real time or dynamic risk assessment.
