Pandemic flu having little impact on UK business

Get free weekly news by e-mailCiting data from a survey of 756 IoD members conducted in late July, 85 percent of directors said that their business is not being hugely disrupted by pandemic flu.

Many of the companies surveyed have issued guidance notes regarding how their business should deal with such an outbreak.

Some directors have however expressed dismay at a small minority of employees, who appear to be taking advantage of the general guidance that has been given by the authorities.

Commenting on the survey findings, Corin Taylor, IoD Senior Policy Adviser said: “So far companies have not been severely affected by swine flu, with directors able to focus on the immediate priority of staying afloat during the economic crisis. We may be in the calm before the storm if swine flu does develop into a full blown pandemic later in the year, but there has not been much impact on day-to-day operations up to now.”
