In some disaster situations understanding likely crowd behaviour is vital. Research by Leeds University into this area has just been published by the UK Civil Contingencies Secretariat. This work will also aid business continuity managers making plans for event management.
The guidance is compromised of five reports:
* Understanding Crowd Behaviours: A Guide for Readers - summarises the substantive research reports.
* Understanding Crowd Behaviours: Guidance and Lessons Identified - a practical report, which provides a comprehensive set of good practice guidelines for crowd events and management, and for emergency situations and evacuations. It also provides a set of good practice guidelines for simulating crowd behaviours.
* Understanding Crowd Behaviours: Supporting Evidence - sets out the literature behind the good practice guidelines.
* Understanding Crowd Behaviours: Simulation Tools - contains a detailed review of three of the leading agent-based simulation tools currently available.
* Understanding Crowd Behaviours: Supporting Documentation - sets out and references in detail the sources of the literature underpinning the guidance and lessons identified.
