Egenera Inc. has announced the availability
of three new four-way Egenera Processing Blade configurations based
on the Intel Xeon processor MP 2.80 GHz and Intel Xeon processor
MP 2 GHz. These new blades are aimed at allowing customers to move
mission-critical applications to a bladed architecture.
"Egenera's BladeFrame system is still
the only bladed server suitable for business-critical and back-end
applications," said Susan Davis, vice president of product
marketing and management at Egenera. "But the real story here
is the virtualisation of processing resources. By combining diskless
blades with unique software that virtualises 80 percent of legacy-server
hardware, the BladeFrame lets customers run any application, on
any resource, at any time, automatically. This powerful capability
- coupled with the unparalleled price/performance of Intel's Xeon
processor family - enables data centres to dramatically reduce total
cost of ownership through unprecedented server consolidation."
All Egenera Processing Blades share the same
1U form factor. Customers can easily mix and match configurations,
hot-swapping blades based on capacity or adding a new blade of any
configuration to an empty slot. Moreover, Egenera Processing Blades
support more memory than any blade server on the market, making
them better suited for handling mission-critical applications such
as databases and transaction processing.
