Isle of Man government to conduct business continuity training exercise

Get free weekly news by e-mailIsle of Man-based businesses are being invited to join the Manx emergency services in a business continuity training exercise being staged in Douglas on May 12th.

The Emergency Planning Office at the Isle of Man Government’s Department of Home Affairs is offering people the chance to participate in Project Argus. This is a National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO) initiative, exploring ways to aid businesses in preventing, handling and recovering from a terrorist attack. It achieves this by taking businesses through a simulated terrorist attack. However, the skills learnt during the three hour long table top exercise are transferable to other emergency situations such as a fire or gas leak.

Home Affairs Minister Adrian Earnshaw MHK said: “Project Argus is one of a range of training courses offered by our Emergency Planning Office and the Island’s Civil Defence to encourage the private sector to look at how they would recover from an emergency event. I would urge anyone who feels it could benefit them and their business to come along on May 12.”

There are 100 places on the course, to be held at the Villa Marina on May 12, and places can be reserved before April 20th by contacting Assistant Emergency Planning Officer Ian Young ian.young@gov.im

Ian Young commented: “Project Argus is a free event utilising a multi-media simulation to guide participants through a simulated terrorist attack in the Isle of Man, which should make it interesting for all concerned. Working in small syndicates with other business representatives and members of the emergency services, it will aim to assist people in developing their response to an attack or emergency event.”
