SunGard launches dedicated business continuity network

SunGard Availability Services has completed the consolidation and deployment of interconnected networks that have been constructed to offer clients business continuity connectivity on a regional, national and international basis.

SunGard states that the new dedicated network solution will shorten the recovery window for UK businesses, reducing their vulnerability to system and business interruption. It comprises:

* ScaleNet - a high bandwidth metropolitan area network - which connects SunGard's four London recovery campuses;

* An Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) network, which links together SunGard’s non-London recovery sites in a BT Cellstream network; and

* The SunGard Global Network, which comprises 25,000 miles of leased optical backbone to connect 48 points of presence worldwide.

SunGard’s London Technology Centre (LTC) - a 130,000 sq ft £40 million ‘MegaCenter’ - is the primary UK hub through which this connectivity is achieved.

“The completion of our regional, national and global networks means we can now offer business continuity facilities of unrivalled scope and connectivity, not only in the UK but also across continental Europe and world-wide," said Keith Tilley, managing director of SunGard Availability Services UK. “This new network capability we have created means that our customers are no longer as dependent on the geographical location of sites as they once were. By creating a backup for backup in this way, they can also be more certain that they will have immediate access to the critical data needed to continue business as normal.”
