The Business Continuity Institute has released the results of a survey which looked at the role of human resource departments in BCM.
The survey found that 93 percent of respondents believe that HR has an important role to play in business continuity management, but that actual practices differ quite markedly.
Highlights include:
- HR managers do see their role to resolve staff issues in a crisis (66 percent) – this is much stronger (80 percent) where an incident has occurred.
- Considerations for staff with special needs at recovery sites is not well considered (56 percent have not done this).
- Staff counselling arrangements are very well established (62 percent of all respondents have done this) especially in the public sector (88 percent).
- Only 50 percent of respondents said that their organization had a staff information line and/or incident line?
- Only 11 percent of respondents had surveyed staff on their expectations of the company during a crisis?
