Danuta Hübner, European Commissioner for regional policy, has presented the findings of the new ‘Regions 2020’ report, which provides an analysis of the likely regional impact of four of the biggest challenges facing Europe. These are seen to be: globalisation, demographic trends, climate change and energy use and supply.

Produced by the Commission's Directorate-General for Regional Policy, the report uses a series of indicators to map out a ‘vulnerability index’, indicating the degree of vulnerability faced by regions due to the impact of globalisation, demography, climate change and energy.

The report provides useful insights into the likely changes in political and operational risks in different areas of Europe through to the year 2020.
