In its latest member newsletter, the Business Continuity Institute has given details of how it expects to develop the Good Practice Guidelines (GPG), which have provided guidance about business continuity management for many years.
The BCI says that there will not be a major update to the GPG in 2009, “although minor changes to the current text to bring it more in line with emerging international standards might be undertaken by the Secretariat under the direction of the Institute's Technical Director.”
Beyond 2009, the BCI says that it plans to “extend the GPG to become a wider global body of knowledge.”
The Good Practice Guidelines (2008) can be downloaded free of charge from http://www.thebci.org/gpg.htm
The GPG consists of six individual PDFs covering:
- Chapter one – Business Continuity Management Policy & Programme Management
- Chapter two – Understanding the Organization
- Chapter three – Determining Business Continuity Strategy
- Chapter four – Developing & Implementing a Business Continuity Response
- Chapter five – Exercising, Maintaining & Reviewing Business Continuity Management Arrangements
- Chapter six – Embedding Business Continuity Management in the Organization’s Culture.
