The Heatwave Plan for England, first published in 2004, has been revised by the Department of Health. The revision “draws on the 2006 and 2007 experience, an evaluation of the response, and recent evidence from the World Health Organization’s EuroHEAT project”.
The Heatwave Plan for England aims to enhance resilience in the event of a heatwave and to encourage health professionals and public sector emergency planners to make contingency plans for the impacts of extreme heat on human health and safety.
The plan sets out the arrangements that will apply, and the actions required, in advance of, and during, a heatwave.
While the document is aimed at the public sector, it contains useful information for those private sector business continuity managers who see human resource continuity as an important aspect of BCM.
