The Queensland State Government's Flood Recovery Taskforce has met with insurance company chiefs to discuss issues surrounding the recovery effort in Central Queensland.
Housing minister Robert Schwarten and minister for Primary Industries and Fisheries and Member for Mackay, Tim Mulherin, met with senior representatives from Suncorp, RACQ, NRMA, the Insurance Australia Group, CGU and the Insurance Council of Australia.
Also taking part were the head of the Flood Recovery Taskforce, John Gaskin, and Mackay Rebuilding Coordination Centre (MRCC) general manager Ian Jennings.
Mr Schwarten said the meeting discussed current progress on the assessment of insurance entitlements and established an ongoing network for communication.
“The meeting has paved the way forward for an enhanced working relationship between all parties,” Mr Schwarten said.
“The flood was a significant event from which it will take many months to recover.”
Mr Gaskin, who is the president of the Master Builders and chairman of the board of the Building Services Authority, has been appointed to help oversee the rebuilding of Central Queensland towns following the recent floods.
He is joined on the Taskforce by Mackay Mayor Julie Boyd and together they are leading the work being undertaken on the ground by various government departments and agencies.
The Taskforce will oversee all work going forward into the difficult phase of rebuilding and report directly to minister Schwarten.
