Virtual desktops for enterprise disaster recovery

Get free weekly news by e-mailKidaro Inc., a provider of enterprise desktop virtualization solutions, has launched the Kidaro Desktop DR solution for rapid disaster recovery of employee desktop access. With the Desktop DR solution, enterprises can add another arm to their business continuity options by distributing corporate-controlled virtual desktops on DVDs, USB drives, or over the Web.

Kidaro's virtual desktop platform enables secure employee access to corporate resources and data from their home PCs or recovery center computers. Because the solution runs locally on existing desktop and laptop computers, without expensive server farms, Kidaro Desktop DR provides a cost-effective and secure method for recovery.

"Many enterprises have 'checked the box' on disaster recovery for their data centers, but are risking extended downtime because there is no cost-effective solution for rapidly provisioning replacement PCs for employees," said Carl Wright, vice president of corporate strategy at Kidaro. "Kidaro changes the equation, providing a secure, simplified solution that leverages existing hardware instead of using brute force to duplicate existing capabilities."

The Kidaro platform automates the provisioning of virtual desktops that can be rapidly deployed on alternate corporate PCs, employee home computers, or recovery center machines. With Kidaro, enterprises can pre-distribute virtual desktops on DVD, USB drives, or over the Web using Kidaro Trim Transfer for efficient delivery, updating, and policy control of virtual machine images. Integrated encryption and leak prevention features insure that sensitive corporate data is protected. These virtual desktops can be used as an everyday remote computing platform, or can be installed on-demand for business continuity.

In addition, Kidaro supports disconnected use, which is critical for mobile laptops, or scenarios involving degradation of the telecommunications infrastructure. For a variety of disaster situations, including weather emergencies and pandemic ‘flu, planning assumptions include extended disruptions to WAN connectivity. Providing disconnected access to virtual desktop resources insures that employees can access critical information regardless of network conditions.
