Pakistan government outlines the extent of suicide bombing threat

Get free weekly news by e-mailThe Associated Press of Pakistan has reported on a briefing by a Pakistan Interior Ministry spokesman about the suicide bombing threat in the country.

Thursday’s attack in Lahore was the second of the year and followed 73 suicide attacks during 2007. The spokesperson blamed various splinter groups that want to destabilise Pakistan. Such terrorists will ‘be foiled at all costs’ he promised, with the government aiming to eliminate terrorism from the country during 2008.

In the meantime security across Pakistan is being tightened further.

The latest attack in Lahore resulted in 24 dead and 64 injured and caused severe disruption to the city.
