The fifth International Ministerial Conference on Avian and Pandemic Influenza is taking place in New Delhi, India. Previous conferences took place in Washington in October 2005, Beijing (January 2006), Vienna (June 2006) and Bamako (December 2006).
The event, which runs from 4th-6th December includes:
- A presentation by David Nabarro, UN Systems Influenza Co-coordinator and Peter C Harrold, Acting Vice President & Head of Network Operations Policy and Country Services, World Bank on ‘Progress and impact of efforts to control Avian Influenza and prepare for the next pandemic’
- A session exploring the latest on pandemic preparedness, including progress in development of plans for rapid containment, vaccine production, capacity development and policies for stockpiling and use; challenges of federal systems in preparedness and response for pandemic influenza, regional specificities, best practices and recommendations for a pandemic planning Road Map.
- Various other sessions on avian influenza.
