Virtualization usage continues to grow

Get free weekly news by e-mailTheInfoPro, an independent US research network and leading supplier of market intelligence for the IT industry, has announced the results of a new survey which shows that over two-thirds of users view server virtualization as critical to achieving their business objectives, with another 28 percent viewing it as valuable. 90 percent of server professionals view virtualized servers as the next enterprise IT server platform. Further, they believe that hosting applications on their own physical servers will become the exception.

Business continuity and disaster recovery is the third highest driver of virtualization usage, after ‘cost savings’ and ‘server consolidation’.

Spending on virtualization software has increased in 50 percent of organizations surveyed, compared to spending in 2006. 37 percent of organizations spent about the same amount.
