| SunGard Availability Services makes senior appointment
Mr. Berg joins SunGard from NCR Corporation where he was chief administrative officer, responsible for the company's strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, information technology, procurement and real estate functions. Previously, Mr. Berg was chief information officer at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and a regional vice president of PepsiCo's Frito-Lay division. Mr. Berg started his career at IBM Corporation and then held management positions with McKinsey & Company. He holds a Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering from the University of Illinois and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard University. Cristobal Conde, president and chief executive officer of SunGard, said: "Eric's strategic insight and operational skills will help position SunGard Availability Services for the next phase of growth. The traditional approach to business continuity is shifting to a focus on business operational risk. In addition, advancements in virtualization technology provide a foundation to drive new IT services, meeting the demand for reduced recovery time objectives, less complexity and greater utility. Mr. Berg takes over as group chief executive officer from Ted Gaasche, a two-decade SunGard veteran. Mr. Gaasche previously served as chief operating officer and chief financial officer of SunGard Availability Services and will assist Mr. Berg in his transition.
