Businesses operating in Pakistan are regularly impacted by power outages and low quality supplies. In a statement published earlier this week, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz outlined measures being taken to address this issue.
The Prime Minister said that the government was fully aware of the energy challenges and was ‘taking every measure to meet the shortages’.
"The government has imported two power producing plants, which will add another 275 mega watts of electricity and help meet the shortages", the Prime Minister said in an interview with Geo television's programme ‘Baazar'. “As well as this,” he said, “various public and private sector power projects are underway which, after completion, will help redress the balance between supply and demand.”
Shaukat Aziz also promised to control electricity prices in Pakistan, saying that the government would provide subsidies to allow the power sector to provide electricity at ‘minimum rates’ despite the fact that ‘the price of one barrel of oil has increased up to 70 dollars in the international market’.
