EVault awarded patent for online backup and recovery technology

EVault, Inc., has announced that the company has been awarded US Patent No. 7,134,041 by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The patent for ‘Systems and Methods for Data Backup over a Network’ is a core component of EVault's DeltaPro technology, which makes it easy to secure, protect and recover critical data across a broad range of operating systems and applications, delivering the highest performing online backup and recovery solutions available.

The patent discloses, among other things, key advances relating to EVault's Quick File Scanning technology. After a baseline copy of data files has been created, the system automatically checks for new files and any changes in existing files at the data source by comparing the hash numbers of the present data files with the hash numbers of the data files in the baseline copy. Only new files and changed data blocks of existing files are then sent to the storage location and merged into their corresponding data files in the baseline copy. This maximizes the efficiency and performance of the DeltaPro process by eliminating data commonality, reducing the impact on network traffic during backup and recovery windows, and minimizing the overall storage footprint.
