Although no official confirmation has been forthcoming, it appears that Survive, the UK-based business continuity membership organisation, has ceased trading.
Earlier in the week Survive contacted delegates on its courses to explain that due to various circumstances its upcoming events and training courses had been cancelled. This was followed yesterday by a notice on the Survive website; which then became unavailable at lunchtime and has remained so since.
The business recovery company, Ian Holland + Co, is reported to have taken on the task of handling Survive’s affairs. The company can be contacted via http://www.ianholland.co.uk/contact.html
If the problems at Survive turns out to be a permanent closure and liquidation it will be a sad day for the business continuity industry. While Survive has been less influential in recent years, during the 1990s it was one of the leading lights in the worldwide business continuity profession, helping set the foundations for today’s widespread acceptance across all industry sectors.
The closure of Survive could also have a knock-on impact on independent business continuity trainers in the UK; many of which relied on Survive for significant proportions of their revenue.
Continuity Shop, the main reseller of Survive courses, made the following statement yesterday:
“For almost twenty years, Survive has been almost synonymous with business continuity. They have put on excellent conferences and training events in addition to providing information and help to their members. Continuity Shop has had a happy working relationship with them and is saddened to see their demise. We wish their owners and staff, some of whom are our friends, our very best wishes in these difficult times.
“As a Survive reseller, we have been telephoned and e-mailed by some of those who have booked on future Survive training courses and asked about the status of their bookings. We have been informed by Survive's insolvency advisers, Ian Holland Limited, that none of these is likely to run.
“As a duty to our customers, Continuity Shop will honour any bookings on Survive courses made through ourselves and give a free transfer to a similar course from another provider, even in cases where we have paid Survive for the place, which is almost always the case.
“If you have booked a Survive course through us, then please see a list of alternative BCI-Approved courses at http://www.continuityshop.com/Survive.htm “
Ian Holland + Co has provided the following update: Survive has not yet gone into liquidation - there is a creditors meeting on 4 May 2007. Notification of this has been sent by post to all Survive creditors.
