Stratus has launched a new server which is claims is the most powerful Intel processor-based, fault-tolerant server ever for Windows or Linux operating environments. The two-socket ftServer 6200 system uses the Intel Xeon quad-core processor. Like all ftServer models, the 6200 system delivers uptime reliability of 99.999 percent or better, making it ideal for transaction- intensive business processes, next-generation telecommunications services, or as a high-performance database engine or virtualization platform.
Among the key features are:
* Support for Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition R2;
* Support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS v.4 and ES v.4 (both standard and premium);
* Memory up to 24GB logical (up to 48GB physical);
* Internal hot-pluggable SAS/SATA drives, up to three logical (up to six physical);
* Virtual technician module (VTM) for remote out-of-band diagnosis and reboot; and
* Active Upgrade software for online patching and hot fixes(Windows only).
(Go to http://www.stratus.comproducts/ftserver/6200/specs.htm for complete system specifications.)
The new system supports several external data storage options, including Stratus ftScalable Storage, a high-performance, expandable RAID subsystem. ftScalable storage consists of a 2U (3.5") 12-disk shelf containing a pair of RAID controllers; expansion to 24 or 36 disks is possible with optional expansion shelves. Other external storage supported on the ftServer 6200 includes EMC Symmetrix/Clariion systems, and Hewlett-Packard EVA 500 and EVA 4000/6000/800.
The ftServer 6200 system is the first product developed jointly by Stratus and NEC Corporation as a result of their collaboration agreement. Stratus is currently beta testing the server, which will be available in June 2007.
